SWIMMING POOL POLICY
BACKGROUND
Welcome to Buckridge Private School Swimming Pool Sessions. You will be given the opportunity to become water safe and to learn basic swimming techniques.
Swimming develops strong bodies and good coordination. It stimulates emotional development through contact and movement. This type of body stimulation is only obtained in water as a result of the water pressure around the body.
Swimming stimulates both the right and left side of the brain.

3. SUPERVISION AND ADMISSION
3.1. No persons may use the pool unless a responsible person, coach or teacher, capable of providing supervision, is on duty
3.2 In addition, at least two people (Adults) should be present whenever the pool is being used.
3.3 Medically compromised learners or patrons (person with disabilities, mentally retarded, epileptic, hypersensitive, etc.) must always be with an adult when using the pool at all times
3.4 Parents/guardians are prohibited from being at the pool area during practices.
3.5 Employees are the only people allowed in the pool area, chemical storage area and change rooms.
3.6 Visiting schools or teams for any swimming competition must follow the school’s swimming pool safety plan.
3.7 Socializing with the pool supervising staff is prohibited as they can be distracted from their duties at the pool.
3.8 No supervising staff shall be allowed to use a cell phone or attend to any calls during the time they are on pool duty.
4. FACILITY SAFETY RULES
4.1 Running, rough play, pushing, acrobatics, dunking, wrestling, diving or jumping haphazardly, snapping of towels, improper conduct causing undue disturbance or acts that can endanger anyone are prohibited.
4.2 Spitting, blowing of nose into the pool or onto the deck, improper display of affection, profanity, chewing gum, and smoking is strictly prohibited.
4.3 Food or refreshments should not brought or be consumed in or around the pool area.
4.4 Changing – Children should come wearing their swimming consumes under uniforms and those who bring them in the bag must change in gender appropriate changing rooms.
5. Equipment
5.1 Goggles are permitted.
5.2 Floatation devices are permitted.
5.3 Loitering will not be allowed at the pool area.
5.4 Glass containers, alcoholic beverages, drugs and pets are not allowed at the pool area.
5.5 Leave bags and books and all stationery in class. Lost and found items may be collected at the office reception. Buckridge Private School, its associates and employees has no liability for the loss, damage or theft of anyone’s belongings while using the pool.
6. EMERGENCY
6.1 Any injury or accident occurring at the pool must be reported to the office immediately an accident report shall be filled by the Supervisor who was in charge of that session to be pasted in the learner’s dairy.
6.2 All rescue equipment must be easily accessible
6.3 Communication with emergency services shall be done by the office after assessing the extend of the accident.
7. SERVICING, CHLORINATION AND CLEANING
7.1 The pool is serviced daily by the grounds man responsible to keep the water quality at prescribed levels, maintain the pumps, sand filters and clean the pool and ablution areas regularly.
7.2 During summer months when the pool experiences high volume usage, cleaning and chlorination will take place in the evening or early morning under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager
7.3 All chemicals must be stored and handled in strict accordance to Health regulations to ensure no injuries or fatalities take place.
SWIMMING POOL RULES
• Golden Rule: Never swim alone. An adult must always be present.
• Never enter the pool until the teacher is present.
• Don’t walk near the side of the pool.
• Never run and play around the pool.
• If the water depth is unknown to you – don’t dive.
• No pushing, dunking, splashing or throwing anyone in the pool.
• Never jump in unless your instructor asks you to do so.
• Go to the toilet before entering in the water, don’t wee in the pool. – Practise Good Hygiene
• Make sure your feet are clean before entering into the pool; we want our pool to remain clean.
• Wear lycra swim wear, as it clings to the body and makes body movement easy.
• When someone falls in the pool; help them by handing them a floating device. Never jump in to try and save someone.
• No drinks or food in the pool area. No gum. No Alcohol
• Discipline around the pool is very important. Alllearnersshould respect the supervising teacher and other swimmers during their session.
• Undisciplined children will be taken out of the pool and will get time out. If bad behaviour is a problem, the child will be given a detention notice.
• No shouting
• Anyone not taking part in aswimming session is not permitted in the pool area.
• Anyone taking swimming sessions is only permitted in the pool area during their scheduled time.
• No communication between, swimmers and onlookers, or onlookers with the Supervising teacher.
• The Coach/Supervisor/or the swimmer/learner must not be distracted in anyway.
• Should you have a problem with another child in your swimming session, report to the supervising teachers.
• No tampering with pool pumps and equipment.
